This is a great image of how we visit our youth but with a quite obvious twist, slightly morbid..
The who
One of my favorite past times which i am happy to say we will all be re living is the dungarees. As soon as i see or hear this word an image is brought back of my 5 year old brother frolicking through the countryside, his golden locks flowing, in a fantastic pair of cotton tye dye dungarees. I love them! I think it should be more than acceptable to be able to wear them and infact this is a debate i have had with a very close friend for quite a while, we both agree pro dungarees, though she is the only one to really act upon it. She wears a black, narrow fitted number, which she most prefers to team with a tight red and white checkered little shirt tucked in underneath. Its a brilliant combination of childhood, country side farmer esque, while still looking very attractive and sexy.
These by Peter Densen are lush, i love the way he doesnt play with the typical farm yard child like fantasy. This is more out there, more unpredictable. Infact the whole of his spring summer collection is lush, theres a strong theme of 'Doll' and its done perfectly, from the clothes, to the hair, to the setting.
This collection is a collaberation between Jensen and artist Laurie Simmons. The collection is based around the 1950's women, the rolls they have and there wardrbobe,put in to the form of dolls.
I love how simple yet effective this is, the dress is made up by what appears to be an old pair of jeans or maybe a skirt pulled up which is something every child does. We used our mothers clothes or old clothes from the box and customize them to make them 'fit' us. I know i used too pull up a massive skirt and hold it on to me with some lairy belt and stupidly big shoes and a lot of jewelery and i know that that's the point of the make shift dress.
The other message behind this is that during the 1950's there was a lot of change for the women's rights movement, so it could also signify the woman starting to take power, the women 'wearing the trousers.'
I love the detailing on this, the waves remind me of dressing up at play group. It also reminds me of the pantomimes i was in for years. Theres a very 50's style to it so im guessing that's its all tying in with the 50's doll/housewife theme.
I have just found this amazing photograph of two 1950's dolls and they have the wave design on there dresses!
However a male friend of mine put forward the question, how old is too old to be wearing a pair?
After careful thought and research.. i have decided....
